The 36th World Hospital Congress – IHF Rio 2009 is an official event of IHF – International Hospital Federation, the most important organization to represent hospitals and healthcare services in the world. Founded in 1929 in France, IHF convenes federations, hospitals and healthcare organizations of over 100 countries.
The world congress, held each two years and always in different countries, aims at stimulating the cooperation between the associates, the exchange of experiences and the improvement of healthcare management in every level.

::: Date: The 36th World Hospital Congress – IHF Rio 2009 will be held from November 10th to 12th, 2009, in Rio de Janeiro, the main tourism destination in Brazil, that receives over 7 million visitors each year and is considered one of the most important cities for cultural, scientific, technical and commercial events.

::: Venue: The event will take place at the Windsor Barra Hotel & Congressos (www.windsorhoteis.com), one of the newest and most modern hotels in Rio de Janeiro, located in front of Barra da Tijuca beach.

::: Who participates: The congress will convene around 2,000 participants (60% of foreigners), representing more than 100 countries, among hospitals and healthcare organizations’ administrators, medical doctors, sector leaders and healthcare professionals.

::: Who organizes it: The 36th World Hospital Congress – IHF Rio 2009 is a joint realization of the International Hospital Federation, CNS – National Health Confederation and Hospitalar Fair + Forum.

::: About IHF - International Hospital Federation: Founded in 1929, the International Hospital Federation convenes national associations of hospitals, Ministries of Health, health institutions and individual members. With its head-office in Ferney Voltaire/Geneva, it is present in more than 100 countries and its associates are responsible for 50,000 hospitals and health services organizations, attending 3 billion people.

The federation has as its main goal the improvement of health in the world, through a global exchange of experiences and management techniques, as well as the development of health services professional networks. IHF maintains official relationship with the World Health Organization, the World Medical Association and the International Council of Nurses.

::: About CNS - National Health Confederation: Created in 1994, the National Health Confederation is a third degree trade union entity, the highest entity of trade union legislation. With its head office in Brasília, the country’s capital, it congregates 8 federations (Fehosul, Feherj, Fehospar, Fehoesc, Fehoesg, Febase e Fehoesp) and 90 healthcare unions active in the country. It represents all the healthcare services organizations in the country: hospitals, health clinics, clinical analysis and clinical pathology laboratories, services of diagnostics, imaging and physiotherapy and health insurance companies.
Since 2004 CNS is the Brazilian representative for the International Hospital Federation. Its president, Dr. José Carlos Abrahão, is a permanent member of IHF’s board and, for this reason, he has been taking part in IHF meetings and decisions. He is also the elected president for the 2009/2011 mandate.

::: About the Visa: The tourists and visitors of the countries that are part of Mercosur are dismissed from the obligation of presenting the passport. All they need to do is present an ID document. For tourists and visitors of other countries it is mandatory to present a passport valid for the following six months.
