During the opening ceremony of Hospitalar 2008, last June, 10th, in São
Paulo, the President of CNS – National Health Confederation, José
Carlos Abrahão, M.D., and the President of Hospitalar, Waleska Santos,
M.D., officially invited the President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to be
the Patron of the 36th World Hospital Congress – IHF Rio 2009. On that same
occasion, they also made the invitation to the Minister of Health, José
Gomes Temporão, to be the Honorary President of the event.
With the central theme “Healthcare in the Knowledge Era ”, the 36th
World Hospital Congress will be held from November 10th to 12th next year, in
Rio de Janeiro. It will be the first time that a Latin American country will host
a world congress of the International Hospital Federation (IHF).
Carried out in partnership between IHF, CNS and Hospitalar, the event aims
at stimulating the cooperation and exchange of experiences among managers of the
medical-hospital area, as well as the improvement of healthcare management in
every level.
The organizers expect to convene around 2,000 congress attendees (being 60%
of them foreigners), including hospitals and other healthcare services institutions
administrators, medical doctors, sector leaders and healthcare professionals.
“We are already inviting all those who operate in this sector and who
are part of the health’s productive chain to participate in the IHF Rio
2009. We believe this interaction with the professionals of all over the world
may decisively contribute to the development and promotion of the positive actions
that Brazil has been implementing in the healthcare sector”, says Dr. Abrahão.

Simultaneously to the congress, there will be the Medical Devices Expo –
Rio 2009, a products, equipment and medical-hospital services exhibition. Organized
by Hospitalar and CNS, the show will present the best in the Brazilian medical
technology to a highly qualified public, composed by the participants of IHF Rio
