Since the end of July, Rio de Janeiro’s visitors may enjoy the sun, the
blue sea and the amazing beauty of Copacabana Beach without losing connection
with the world. This is now possible thanks to the program Orla Digital (Digital
Beach), a free Internet system outdoors (Wi-Fi), sponsored by the Secretary of
Science and Technology of Rio de Janeiro.
The project counts on the support of Rio de Janeiro’s City Hall, which
has provided the infrastructure of posts and ducts of RioLuz for installing the
radio equipment and passing through the fiber-optic cables. With the Motomesh
technology, from Motorola, the wireless access to Internet will cover the whole
Atlântica Avenue, being even able to reach parts of some crossing streets
near the beach, bringing benefits to many areas, such as tourism, security, education
and commerce.
