The 36th World Hospital Congress – IHF Rio 2009 was launched officially in Rio de Janeiro on October 29th, during a dinner organized by entities connected with the healthcare sector. IHF Director General, Eric de Roodenbeke and the Events and Projects Manager of the entity, Dwight Moe flew in Rio to participate in the event.

The event was held at the Jockey Club and it also commemorated the 16th edition of the Hospital Business Congress, held last month in Rio de Janeiro. President of CNS, Dr. José Carlos Abrahão, recalled that this is the first time that a world congress of the IHF will take place in Latin America. Says Dr. Abrahão: “Rio de Janeiro is waiting, open arms, to welcome healthcare representatives and directors from all over the world. This is a most momentous opportunity for Brazil to show its significant healthcare system, which today represents 8% of the country’s GDP”.

President of HOSPITALAR, Dr. Waleska Santos, reaffirmed her satisfaction to participate actively in another major event of the Brazilian healthcare. “We have been members of IHF since HOSPITALAR was created. To bring this event to Brazil has always been a dream, that is now coming true. We are getting ready to hold a strong and very representative congress, that will discuss the future of healthcare in Brazil, Latin America and worldwide”.

Franco Pallamolla, president of ABIMO – Brazilian Association of the Medical-Dental Industry (one of the sponsors of the Congress together with AMIL and White Martins), emphasized on the importance of the Brazilian industry to attend this major world healthcare meeting. “Brazil boasts an industrial complex of high exporting capabilities that needs enhanced international promotion”, concluded Pallamolla.
