The most traditional Brazilian festivity brings colorful happiness to the IHF RIO 2009 CONGRESS!

The warm welcome to the participants at the 36th World Hospital Congress will be enhanced by the contagious happiness of the Carioca Carnival.
On the first evening of the event, participants are invited to a party at the Cidade do Samba, which is, as a matter of fact an authentic theme park dedicated to the culture and popular Brazilian music.

With the show “Forces of Nature ”, the participants will have the opportunity to enjoy the repertoire that praises the natural beauties and Brazilian culture and music at its best. The “Cry of Alert”, promoted by the presentation, highlights environment preservation, suggesting to mull over the need to change attitudes of human beings vis-à-vis natural heritages.

The cast is formed by samba dancers selected among the best Samba Schools of Rio de Janeiro: singers, rhythms, passistas, whirling Baianas, Flag Bearers, Mestre Salas (Masters of Ceremony)will parade to the contagious rhythm of the samba, with the most colorful costume of fantastic beauty.

At the end of the performance the audience is invited to participate in a true parade, on the track that surrounds the 12 barracks of the Samba City. Props and fireworks will take the guest by surprise, creating the emotion of an authentic parade of Samba Schools in Rio de Janeiro, at Carnival time!

Another very unique moment at the IHF Rio 2009 Congress will be the Gala Dinner scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, November 11th in the salons of the venue hotel.
This will be the time for acknowledgments, fraternization and socializing among participants.

To enhance the evening the Congress organizers have invited João Carlos Martins, one of the most important contemporary Brazilian maestros, acknowledged internationally as one of Johann Sebastian Bach prime interpreters.

In 1970, João Carlos Martins was playing at a jazz festival in Alaska when he heard that Dave Brubeck, the musician responsible for the Time Out and also a pianist was in the audience. During the encore, he decided to honor the jazz musician with the one and only non-classic piece he knew: Blue Rondo a la Turk, exactly the opening track of the LP that made a revolution in the jazz music. "With that record, the style started to have beats that were rhythmically non-exact", explains Martins, who – after severe complications and dramatic accidents that resulted in paralyzing his hands and put an end to his activities as a pianist– he then decided to resume his career, to study music and to become a conductor, at the age of 63.
Today he celebrates the 5th anniversary of his Orchestra Bachiana Filarmônica ( an homage to German composer Johann Sebastian Bach, who has always had an enormous influence on the work of the maestro). Last October, with a sold-out concert at the Lincoln Center, in New York, to celebrate Time Out's 50 half century, alongside Dave Brubeck its creato.
